The Truth About Matte Black Material: Why They Wear and How to Protect Them

1. The Honest Truth There is no such thing as a 100% scratch-proof matte black tap. Because black is a coating applied over the raw metal (brass or steel), friction, hard water, and chemicals will naturally affect it over time. Tell them that a slight wearing of the edges over years of heavy daily use is normal—it's a "patina" of a well-loved home.

2. "Cheap Peeling" vs. "Normal Wear & Tear"

  • The Cheap Scam (Flaking): If the black paint is bubbling and flaking off in large chunks after just two months, that is a cheap zinc tap with bad paint adhesion.

  • The Premium Reality (Gradual Fading): High-quality electroplated or baked finishes (like Evernest uses) do not flake off in chunks. However, if you scrub it with a rough sponge every day, the finish will gradually thin out.

3. 3 Rules to Protect Your Matte Black Finish

  • Rule 1: Ditch the Green Sponge. Explain that the rough side of a dish sponge is basically sandpaper. Only use soft microfiber cloths.

  • Rule 2: Ban Harsh Chemicals. CIF, bleach, and acidic bathroom cleaners will eat the coating. Warm water and mild dish soap are all you need.

  • Rule 3: The "Dry Wipe" Habit. Hard water in Malaysia leaves white mineral spots. If left too long, these minerals bite into the black finish. Quickly wiping the tap dry after a shower prevents this entirely.

4. The Evernest Promise (Core vs. Coating)

  • While no black coating can defy the laws of physics forever, what matters most is what’s underneath. Even if your Evernest matte black finish shows signs of love and use over the years, the Solid Brass or 304 Stainless Steel core underneath will never rust, leak, or burst. That is why our 3-Year Warranty protects the structural integrity of your hardware for total peace of mind.
